To my faithful readers (if you even exist after such a long hiatus):
It seems a touch ridiculous to return after six months just to say goodbye, but I thought it was only fair to give you all a formal farewell and to let you know that it is now safe to delete this blog from your feed reader. There will be no further posts here at A Love Affair.
Last spring, I announced that Jonathan and I intended to adopt a little girl and, indeed, that we had brought her home from the hospital. What followed was undoubtedly the most intense and difficult period of my life thus far, filled with love and joy and excitement and wonder and fear and heartbreak and confusion and anger and every other emotion known to mankind. Thirty-one days into our adventure of being parents, we were informed that our little girl's birth father was filing for custody of her. Four months of court dates and uncertainty later, a judge determined that this young man had the right to stop the adoption. I won't go into the legalities of his decision here; suffice it to say that we feel very strongly that the judge was wrong from both a moral and legal standpoint. But there was little recourse, and so, five months and four days after we welcomed her into the world and into our lives, we kissed our sweet girl goodbye and placed her in the arms of her birth parents. I don't need to tell you how very difficult this was.
I will claim this situation as my excuse for not writing for so long; in addition to not having the time nor the emotional energy to devote to blogging, much of what was on my mind would have been inappropriate and imprudent to share with the world at large, especially given the legal nature of things.I will also claim it for my reason for saying goodbye to A Love Affair With Words. At this point, with all that has happened, it seems unwise to continue blogging here.
Thank you for reading. I am honored that you find my meager posts worthy of your time.
P.S. It may be that I will decide to blog publicly again in the future. If you would like me to let you know when I do so, please shoot me an email or leave me a comment and I will do my best to keep you up to date.
